The first bullet on the big red signs selling our new mayor says, “Rebuild trust & sense of community.”
If someone can please explain to everyone exactly how the new fee for access to public records achieves that, please leave it in the comments.
Let’s rephrase that – PUBLIC records now will cost the PUBLIC money to retrieve. This in spite of the fact that the records already BELONG to the PUBLIC. How does this “rebuild trust and a sense of community?”
There have still been no details released about the “free” Wi-Fi system that’s already a done deal. Former Mayor Doug Iverson has asked TWICE in the Vidette and once in a city council meeting for some information about the long-term costs, and the terms of the deal with the “donor.” Still nothing has been published. We’re getting “free” Wi-Fi with no assurance that it’s not going to become an unsupportable millstone around the city business’ necks for years to come. No opportunity for public comment before the fact. Trust? Sense of community? More like, “Shut up. March in a straight line.”
If it’s okay with everybody that the new regime is making it more and more difficult to find out what goes on behind the curtain, and if that’s your idea of “rebuilding trust & a sense of community,” just sit on your hands. Everything is all sunshine and unicorns and rainbows and lollipops.
